As a greater number of public bodies take out legal expenses insurance, discrimination claims under the Equality Act are being dealt with more and more by legal professionals acting for insurer clients. Such claims can arise not only in respect of public law claims, but also in employment claims. The duties imposed by the Equality Act are not always straightforward, and this seminar attempts to give an introduction to the Act as well as cover recent updates.
Paul Strelitz and Leon Glenister will discuss:
- Finding your way around the Equality Act 2010 – the protected characteristics, prohibited conduct and the duty to make reasonable adjustments.
- Defending claims – practice, procedure and remedies.
- Key cases in both the sphere of public bodies, as well as the sphere of employment law.
