Gatehouse Chambers’ Costs and Litigation Funding Team will be hosting their next Brew on Monday 14 October 2024. PJ Kirby KC, Robin Dunne, and Martyn Griffiths will discuss the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and Glaser v Atay [2024] EWCA Civ 1111.
The case determined that the direct access barristers’ terms did not comply with the CRA and that the contract was unenforceable. The barristers were not entitled to be paid on a quantum meruit basis.
The discussion will focus on the implications of this case for solicitors and barristers in the future. Including the potential for future developments in this area for challenges to solicitors’ retainers and barristers’ terms of business. PJ, Robin and Martyn have a wealth of experience in solicitor and client costs disputes and will bring detailed insight into potential developments in this area in the coming months.
