Insurance Brew: I have to tell them as well? Notification and excess layer insurers

Gatehouse chambers’ Insurance Team will be hosting their next Brew on Thursday 30 January at midday.

Notification is a well-trodden issue in insurance law. But less frequently discussed is notification in the context of excess layer insurance – i.e. insurance which provides additional cover when the limit of indemnity under the main insurance policy is reached. In this Gatehouse Chambers Brew, Catherine Piercy KC and Tom Bell will discuss the practical issues that may arise where a policyholder incurs a large loss or faces a potentially significant liability. They will also consider the leading case on the topic – Friends Provident Life and Pensions Ltd v Sirius International Insurance.
