As we enter the last quarter of 2013, the impact of welfare reform will become increasingly apparent: Universal Credit will be “rolled out nationally” from October 2013; possession claims based on rent arrears – caused at least in part by welfare reform – will appear with greater frequency in county courts nationwide; and unsuccessful challenges to the bedroom tax – notably R(on the application of MA & Ors) v Secretary of State for Work & Pensions (Defendant) & Birmingham City Council (Interested Party) & (1) Equality & Human Rights Commission (2) Shelter [2013] EWHC 2213 (QB) – will surely make their way to the appeal courts.
Now is the time to re-assess the progress of reform, its impact on the social housing sector and the lessons learned so far by local housing authorities and private registered providers.
Join us at our CPD-accredited breakfast seminar on 25 September 2013, when Head of Hardwicke’s Social Housing Team, Dean Underwood, will be joined by Morayo Fagborun Bennett and Andy Lane to lead discussion about the extent and effect of reform and the issues likely to affect social landlords in 2014.
The seminar is aimed at housing professionals and lawyers with a sound grasp of welfare reform.
