Gatehouse Chambers announces its first-ever Scholar: Natalya Din-Kariuki

Gatehouse Chambers is delighted to congratulate Natalya Din-Kariuki as the recipient of the inaugural Gatehouse Chambers Scholarship, in association with the scholarship programme at Gray’s Inn.
Gatehouse Chambers is privileged to participate in the new Gray’s Inn GDL Double Scholarship providing financial assistance for students undertaking a Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) in the first year, followed by the Bar Course in the second year. This new GDL Double Scholarship ensures that scholars receive guaranteed funding for both the academic and vocational stages of Bar training in a single application cycle.
Natalya brings an exceptional academic background to the first Gatehouse Chambers Scholarship. Natalya was educated at the University of Oxford. She gained a First-Class degree in English Language and Literature at Wadham College, winning the Gibbs Prize for distinguished performance. Natalya went on to earn an MSt with Distinction at Balliol College, and a DPhil at Hertford College on the Rhodes Scholarship, before taking up a position in the Department of English and Comparative Literary Studies at the University of Warwick in 2019, where she is now Associate Professor.
Natalya’s practical experience has also prepared her for the Bar. As a caseworker for her local branch of the University and Colleges Union, Natalya provided advice and representation to members across a range of employment concerns. She has also been involved in commercial and intellectual property issues in the course of her experience at a literary agency, working on estates, rights, and international publishing matters.
Natalya aims to develop a broad practice across commercial and public law, with a particular focus in intellectual property disputes, international arbitration, and competition law. She looks forward to applying the analytical, research, and advocacy skills that she has developed in academia in a practical legal setting.
Amanda Illing, CEO, commented:
“We are delighted to name Natalya as our first Gatehouse Chambers Scholar. Her outstanding academic record, practical experience and clear commitment to building a career at the Bar make Natalya an exceptional candidate. We look forward to supporting Natalya as she takes this next step along the pathway to her legal career.”
On receiving the Scholarship offer, Natalya commented: “This is the best possible start to my journey to the Bar. It is an honour to be the first recipient of this scholarship, and I am grateful to Gatehouse Chambers and Gray’s Inn for their support. I look forward to my association with Gatehouse Chambers, whose work I admire, in the years ahead.”
