Heather Ilott v Mitson and Others
Melita Jackson left her £486,000 estate to animal charities after she died in 2004. She and her daughter, Heather Ilott, became estranged after Heather eloped with her boyfriend (who is now her husband) at the age of 17. Melita made her last will in 2002, disinheriting her only daughter and bequeathing her estate to animal welfare charities.
Mrs Ilott challenged her mother's will on the basis that her father, who died two months before she was born, .
