Shazia Akhtar returning to practice on the 1st of December 2011

Hardwicke is delighted to announce that Shazia Akhtar will be returning from maternity leave to practice on the 1st of December 2011.

Shazia (called in 2001) spent part of her maternity leave working in West Africa as a Judicial Reform and Human Rights Consultant for the Department for International Development (DfID) where she took part in a £32million funded programme improving access to justice for Nigerian people. This role involved researching and advising on areas of reform in the Nigerian High Court system including integrating the use of alternative dispute resolution into the formal justice system; advising and researching upon the impact of Sharia law within the Nigerian legal and economic framework and designing a paralegal scheme to improve access to justice and human rights for citizens in rural Nigeria.

Shazia will continue to undertake work in the fields of Education, Community Care, Judicial Review, Human Rights, Discrimination, Court of Protection, Local and Central government and Regulatory work for a variety of clients including individuals, local authorities and institutions.
