Gatehouse Chambers is delighted that Charles Bagot KC has been successful in the election for the next Chair of PIBA (the Personal Injuries Bar Association) for a two year term, with effect from 2 April 2022.

PIBA is the largest of the Specialist Bar Associations, with approximately 1,500 members who practise in the field of personal injury work, for both claimants and defendants. It has an important role in the education and training of its members, leading the way amongst SBAs with the quality and frequency of its continuing education programme both online and in person. It also represents the views of members, such as when reforms are proposed by Government departments, HMCTS, the Civil Justice Council, the Rules Committee, the Law Commission and others. It has been a neutral intervenor on occasions when issues of significance for injury law and practice reach the higher courts.

As Chair, Charles will also represent PIBA on the General Management Committee of the Bar Council. The Association continues to work closely with the Bar Council, the Circuits and other industry bodies, across a range of issues affecting injury work, such as listing problems in the Courts, fixed fee levels, outreach and ED&I, access to justice, education and wellbeing.

Charles took over the reins at PIBA’s flagship annual residential conference, held at St. Catherine’s College, Oxford, over the weekend of 2/3 April 2022.
