The barristers of Gatehouse Chambers’ award-nominated Costs & Litigation Funding Team will provide a breakfast seminar double-header, addressing recent developments in solicitor-client costs disputes and costs budgeting. Each seminar will end with a Q&A session chaired by PJ Kirby KC.
Please join us for breakfast followed by two seminars (with a networking coffee break).
Solicitor-Client Update
Martyn Griffiths and Priya Gopal will delve through recent cases in solicitor-client disputes and will provide their insight on various matters, including solicitors’ estimates, retainer disputes and statute bills. Solicitor-client costs disputes show no sign of abating and it is critical for practitioners to keep up to date with this technical and constantly developing area of costs law.
Costs Budgeting and costs risks
Robin Dunne and Jake Rowley will be considering the flurry of recent cases concerning the circumstances where the court should depart from ‘costs in the case’ orders following CCMCs. What are the risks and how can solicitors and costs lawyers mitigate them? What costs should go into a budget, and should the parties “self-assess” their costs for reasonableness and proportionality at the budgeting stage? What about assumptions and how they impact on the likely budget to be approved?
Please sign up here. We will be in touch to confirm places in due course.
