Morayo Fagborun Bennett appointed as District Judge

Gatehouse Chambers is delighted to announce that Morayo Fagborun Bennett has been appointed as a District Judge on the South Eastern Circuit, based at Central Family Court and Central London Trial Centre, with effect from 15 January 2024.

Morayo’s practice at the Bar focussed on specialist property and housing law, which included an appearance in the Supreme Court this time last year. She is ranked in both the Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners directories.

Morayo has contributed enormously to life in chambers over the years. Most recently she has been a very dynamic and effective Chair of our Chambers’ Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee, working tirelessly over the years to inspire change and best practice at the Bar. She facilitated the Bar Council Leadership Programme in 2020/21 and co-founded the All Rise initiative with three other barristers.

Joint Head of Chambers Brie Stevens-Hoare KC commented, “We are absolutely thrilled for Morayo at this very well-deserved appointment. We are very proud of her achievements at Gatehouse Chambers and grateful for the huge contribution she has made to chambers life. We know her to have the integrity, independence of thought and commitment to justice and equality that is so important in our judiciary. We wish her every success in the next stage of her career and look forward to seeing her “Rise” further.”

Amanda Illing also commented, “It has been a real privilege to have worked with Morayo over the years, who has inspired many of us, and especially me, to use our talents, position and voice to inspire meaningful change at the Bar. Thank you, Morayo.”
