Practice overview
Miranda has a broad commercial law practice, with a particular focus on construction and insolvency law. Miranda has appeared both led and unled in the High Court and is regularly instructed to appear in the County Court. She also has a busy paperwork practice, including advising and settling pleadings.
Miranda graduated with a BA in English from Harvard University before completing her Graduate Diploma in Law, during which she won numerous prizes and scholarships. Miranda went on to obtain a Distinction in her LLM in International Commercial Law at UCL, coming first in the year in her Commercial Remedies paper.
During pupillage, Miranda was awarded the Atkin Senior Scholarship by Gray’s Inn, one of the Inn’s most prestigious scholarships awarded to pupils of exceptional merit.
Before coming to the Bar, Miranda worked as a Senior Editor at FromCounsel, a corporate law knowledge publisher used by leading UK law firms, where she assisted with building a new restructuring and insolvency law knowledge service.
Outside of work, Miranda enjoys running half-marathons and marathons, having completed the London Marathon in the spring of 2024.

Commercial dispute resolution
Miranda has experience of all stages of litigation in commercial disputes, including drafting pleadings and appearing for CCMCs, interim applications and at trial.
Her recent instructions have included:
- Successfully obtained default judgment for c.£700,000 in a claim for breach of a guarantee agreement where it was necessary to make an application under CPR 12.11 due to service on a defendant out of the jurisdiction.
- Acted (led by Ryan Hocking of XXIV Old Buildings) for a company in a High Court claim against a former director for breach of his statutory and fiduciary duties and a former employee for dishonest assistance.
- Appeared as sole counsel in the High Court in a commercial lease dispute over repair works totalling c.£330,000.
- Acted in a set aside application in relation to a claim involving allegations of fraud by a guarantor and former director of a debtor company.
- Settled written pleadings in contractual disputes between a major water retailer and businesses over water charges.
- Drafted particulars of claim for breach of a guarantee agreement for sums totalling over £80,000.
- During pupillage, assisted Miguel Henderson and Alice Whyte (led by Nigel Jones KC, Sarah McCann, Lisa Freeman of Furnival Chambers and Emily Betts) with research for the closing submissions in Skatteforvaltningen (Danish Customs and Tax Authority) v Solo Capital Partners LLP & Ors, involving claims for £1.4bn in deceit, conspiracy, unjust enrichment, breach of constructive trust, dishonest assistance and knowing receipt arising out of complex share trading.
- During pupillage, assisted Paul Strelitz with research in a multi-day strike out and summary judgment application in a seven figure breach of warranty dispute.

Miranda is regularly instructed to represent parties in winding up petitions and bankruptcy petitions. She volunteers with the Company Insolvency Pro Bono Scheme (COIN) in the winding up court.
Miranda acted (led by Ryan Hocking of XXIV Old Buildings) for a company in a High Court claim against a former director for breach of his statutory and fiduciary duties and a former employee for dishonest assistance.
Miranda also gained experience of a range of insolvency and company disputes during pupillage.

Miranda is regularly instructed in a wide range of construction disputes. She is familiar with a variety of standard form contracts including the JCT forms and Crane and Plant Association (CPA) Model Terms. Her recent work has included:
- Acting (led by Paul Reed KC) in a claim under the Defective Premises Act 1972 in respect of alleged defects in cladding, value c. £8m.
- Acting in a £1.5m dispute concerning alleged damage to a crane hired on CPA Model Terms.
- Acted (led by Michael Wheater KC) in adjudication proceedings arising from a dispute over a shock load on a crane hired on CPA Model Terms.
- Acted (led by Simon Kerry) in a dispute over alleged defects in a damp proof course at a new build property.
- Appeared as sole counsel in the High Court (TCC) in a commercial lease dispute over repair works totalling c.£330,000.
- Advised on the expiry of limitation periods for claims in contract and tort against architects on a residential construction project.
- Drafted a defence in a claim for non-payment of a retention sum under a JCT contract.
- Drafted a defence in a dispute over an alleged breach of a NHBC builder warranty.
- Advised on a claim against a contractor in a substantial residential building dispute involving issues of betterment.
- Acted for a contractor in a one day trial of a dispute over alleged defects in a bathroom installation.

Miranda accepts instructions in both commercial and residential property disputes.
She regularly appears in the County Court for small claims and fast-track trials and hearings, including possession, directions hearings, and interim applications. She also has a broad written practice and is frequently instructed to advise on quantum in housing disrepair claims and settle written pleadings.
During pupillage, Miranda assisted with drafting the grounds of appeal in a complex multi-party property dispute between a legal owner, beneficial co-owner and a lender, involving priority of interests and accounting for development expenditure.
