We are deeply saddened to hear the news of the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Walter Aylen KC.

Walter was an exceptional barrister whose career at the Bar spanned nearly five decades. Called in 1962 and appointed King’s Counsel in 1983, Walter joined Hardwicke (now Gatehouse Chambers) in 1988 and soon became Head of Chambers, a role he held for nine transformative years. Walter retired from the Bar in 2011.

Walter was not only a brilliant advocate but also a generous colleague and mentor. Those in chambers who knew him will all remember fondly Walter’s unique spirit and story-telling (always with a twinkle in his eye) which came from a generation of advocates who were as at home in the High Court as they were at the Old Bailey.

We are forever grateful for Walter’s immense contribution to our chambers and the legacy he leaves behind.

Our thoughts and heartfelt good wishes are with his family and friends at this time.
