Practice overview
Mark is interested in all areas of Chambers’ practice, with a particular focus on personal injury, professional negligence, and residential and commercial property disputes. He has extensive experience of witness handling and trial advocacy, and a broad written practice.
Prior to joining Gatehouse Chambers in 2024, Mark appeared in over 2,400 hearings as an advocate in the County Court, in a variety of general civil, property, personal injury, insolvency and consumer credit hearings. Due to the experience gained prior to pupillage, Mark was granted a substantial reduction in the length of his pupillage by the Bar Standards Board.
Mark recently appeared in a six-day High Court trial, Christie v Mary Ward Legal Centre [2025] EWHC 330 (KB), led by Peter Petts alongside David Lipson, defending a complex professional liability claim involving negligent advice given in a property matter.
Mark is a member of PIBA, and routinely drafts headnotes for the Personal Injury and Quantum Reports (PIQR) (Sweet & Maxwell).
Mark studied undergraduate Law at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, and completed the Bar Professional Training Course at City Law School.

Mark specialises in personal injury, and routinely accepts instructions to settle pleadings, provide advice, and attend hearings and trials in this area.
Mark has extensive experience of representing both Claimants and Defendants in liability disputes arising out of road traffic accidents, as well as credit hire cases, and infant and protected party approval hearings.
Mark is a member of PIBA, and routinely drafts headnotes for the Personal Injury and Quantum Reports (PIQR) (Sweet & Maxwell).
As a probationary tenant, Mark assisted other members of Chambers in a number of personal injury matters:
- Assisting Colm Nugent in drafting an Advice on Settlement for a High Court approval hearing involving a protected party following a seven-figure settlement, in a claim involving a Traumatic Brain Injury.
- Assisting Charles Bagot KC in drafting Particulars of Claim and Schedule of Loss for a six-figure personal injury claim involving Traumatic Brain Injury.
- Assisting Emma Zeb KC in drafting an Opinion on the appropriate law and jurisdictional challenges posed by the bringing of a Fatal Accidents Act claim in the British Virgin Islands against a company resident in the Cayman Islands.

Mark accepts instructions in commercial and residential property disputes. He regularly appears in the County Court for trials and hearings, including residential and commercial possession, anti-social behaviour injunctions, and interim applications.

Mark has a broad written practice, and is regularly instructed to settle pleadings and provide advice on liability and quantum in commercial and residential property matters.
As a probationary tenant, Mark assisted other members of chambers with the following:
- Drafting an Advice on the meaning and enforceability of freehold restrictive covenants, and the grounds upon which they may be varied or discharged.
- Drafting a Defence & Counterclaim, and providing Advice, in a claim for a declaration and damages for trespass and harassment in connection with a boundary dispute.
- Drafting an Advice on the meaning and enforceability of leasehold restrictive covenants in connection with acquisition of the property by a company.
- Drafting an Advice for a Freeholder in respect of its grounds of opposition to a proposed leasehold enfranchisement under the Leasehold Reform Act 1967.

Mark is regularly instructed to act in consumer and commercial disputes. His recent work includes:
- Appearing in the Company Court and advising in connection with the late registration of company charges.
- Drafting an Advice on the enforcement of an English judgment in Iran.
- Appearing in the High Court on an application for a Third Party Debt Order.
- Drafting a Defence to a claim for storage charges based in contract, negligence and unjust enrichment.
- Drafting an Opinion on the prospects of a limitation defence to a claim for a six-figure commercial debt.
- Drafting a pre-action letter in a commercial dispute relating to the destruction of goods leased by way of hire purchase.
As a probationary tenant, Mark assisted Emma Zeb KC in drafting an Opinion on the jurisdictional challenges posed by the bringing of a claim in the British Virgin Islands against a company resident in the Cayman Islands.

Mark is interested in building his practice in costs work. He has assisted Charles Bagot KC and Tom Bell with research on the applicability of the QOCS regime to a claim brought under the Third Parties (Rights against Insurers) Act 2010.
CSR & pro bono
Mark acted pro bono in a six-day High Court trial in January 2025, representing the Mary Ward Legal Centre in their defence to a professional negligence claim: Christie v Mary Ward Legal Centre [2025] EWHC 330 (KB). He was led by Peter Petts alongside David Lipson, instructed by Eversheds Sutherland (also acting pro bono).
