Gatehouse Chambers is delighted to share the proud news that Sarah McCann has been recommended for silk (KC) in the 2025-2026 competition.

Sarah is a highly respected barrister with a specialist Commercial and Insurance practice, with particular expertise in Civil Fraud, Construction & Engineering, Property Damage, Professional Negligence, and Indemnity work, both in construction and non-construction fields.

Sarah’s work covers litigation, arbitration (both international and domestic), adjudication and mediation. She is highly experienced in handling high-value, technically complex disputes and is the author of the leading textbook Construction Insolvency (Sweet & Maxwell, 2022).

Sarah recently acted as part of the successful senior counsel team representing the main Defendants in Skatteforvaltningen (Danish Customs and Tax Authority) v Solo Capital Partners LLP & Ors. This landmark Commercial Court case involved claims totalling £1.4 billion, including deceit, conspiracy, unjust enrichment, breach of constructive trust, dishonest assistance, and knowing receipt arising from complex share trading.

Consistently ranked in the legal directories, Sarah is praised for being a “clear orator, extremely knowledgeable and approachable”, noted for her “tenacious” advocacy and negotiating skills (Chambers UK), and recognised for her “analytical, pragmatic and commercial” approach (Legal 500).

Joint Head of Chambers, David Pliener KC, commented:

“We are immensely proud of Sarah. Her formidable expertise, intellectual rigour, and unwavering commitment to excellence make her thoroughly deserving of silk. Beyond her exceptional legal ability, Sarah is a respected and valued mentor and role model within chambers.”

Amanda Illing, CEO, added:

“It is moments like this that those of us who work in chambers in supporting barristers and their careers live for. The vicarious pleasure that we all get when someone so deserving who has worked so hard, and who has also contributed so much to chambers and their clients reaches this career milestone. We simply could not be more pleased to celebrate this wonderful achievement with Sarah.”
