Practice overview
Alice is developing a broad commercial practice with an emphasis on commercial dispute resolution, insolvency and professional negligence. Alice has particular insight into matters relating to finance, tax and regulated industries, having previously worked at Ernst & Young as a chartered accountant where she advised multi-national corporations on the design of complex tax arrangements both domestically and off-shore.
Alice has a busy advisory and drafting practice, and regularly appears as sole counsel in the High Court and the County Court in applications, trials and appeals.
Alice is currently is currently acting as junior counsel for the main Defendants in Skatteforvaltningen (Danish Customs and Tax Authority) v Solo Capital Partners LLP & Ors, led by Nigel Jones KC, Sarah McCann, Lisa Freeman (of Furnival Chambers) and Emily Betts. The case involves claims for £1.4bn in deceit, conspiracy, unjust enrichment, breach of constructive trust, dishonest assistance, and knowing receipt arising out of complex share trading.
The case is listed as one of The Lawyer’s Top 20 cases for 2024. The main trial started on 9 April 2024 and is timetabled to finish in April 2025. It is the most complex case which has been case managed in the Commercial Court. Mr Justice Baker previously remarked that this case was “litigation on a massive scale”.
Prior to joining Gatehouse Chambers, Alice undertook pupillage at a leading commercial set and gained experience in commercial litigation, international trade and arbitration.

Alice assisted on a range of commercial disputes during her pupillage at a leading commercial set including banking and finance, civil fraud, and commercial arbitration (ICC, LCIA, LMAA, GAFTA).
Alice has recent experience in:
- Advising on affirmation of breaches and termination of a franchising agreement.
- Advising on merits of invoking frustration or force majeure of a high-value long-term services agreement on the basis of climate change.
- Advising on termination options under a high-value shipping-related contract.
- Assisting in advising on quantum in a claim for breach of warranty of a SPA.
- Acting as Secretary of ICC tribunal in multi-million dollar contractual dispute.
- Assisted in CCMC of unfair prejudice petition.
- Drafting various pleadings seeking contractual and equitable remedies.
- Appearing in the County Court and High Court in enforcement proceedings including Third Party Debt Orders and Determination Hearings.
- Acting for high street banks in both interim and final hearings of PPI disputes.

Alice has had exposure to arbitration proceedings under GAFTA, LMAA, LCIA and ICC. She has experience assisting in a range of arbitration matters, including anti-suit injunction applications, challenges to arbitration awards, enforcement of arbitration awards and section 9 stay applications.
Alice recently acted as Tribunal Secretary to an ICC Tribunal hearing in a multi-million dollar claim involving issues of conflict of laws, jurisdiction of the Tribunal and various contractual matters.
Alice has recently advised on bringing LMAA proceedings on the basis of frustration and force majeure of a cargo contract, and advised on quantum.

Alice accepts instructions in a range of insolvency matters. Alice’s recent experience includes:
- Regularly being instructed on winding up and bankruptcy petitions.
- Preparing applications for and drafting witness statements in support of various insolvency applications, including setting aside winding up petitions and applications to administer the estate.
- Researching the entitlement of the trustee in bankruptcy to recoup pension assets after discharge of bankruptcy.

Alice has had considerable exposure to and experience in international trade and private international matters, including disputes arising from voyage charters, time charters and the carriage of goods, both in litigation and arbitration.

Alice spent 6 months volunteering at a charity where she regularly appeared in the First-Tier (Social Security) Tribunal and advised clients on matters relating to debt and benefits.
