Gatehouse Chambers’ commercial barristers are instructed in heavyweight commercial litigation, commercial dispute resolution and commercial arbitration across the UK and internationally.
Our commercial barristers regularly appear in the Commercial Court, Chancery Division, Court of Appeal, Supreme Court and Privy Council, as well as in major domestic and international arbitrations. We are frequently instructed in high-value and multi-party claims with cross-border elements, including disputes connected with the Middle East, the Caribbean, South America, Gibraltar and other offshore jurisdictions (see International).
The Legal 500 describes Gatehouse Chambers as “a go-to set for commercial litigation matters” and notes that “Gatehouse Chambers offers a wide spectrum of expertise across commercial litigation at all levels of call.” It also recognises that chambers is “well-equipped to handle joint venture disputes, commercial arbitrations, and cross-border matters,” reflecting the breadth of work undertaken by our commercial barristers across complex domestic and international disputes.
The strength of our commercial disputes practice is reflected in our involvement in some of the most significant recent commercial cases. In Skatteforvaltningen (The Danish Customs and Tax Administration) v Solo Capital Partners LLP & others, Nigel Jones KC led a team of barristers including Gatehouse Chambers’ Sarah McCann KC, Emily Betts, Miguel Henderson, Thomas Mitty and Alice Whyte in the defence of SKAT’s £1.4bn dividend tax fraud claim. The case became the longest Commercial Court trial in High Court history and involved exceptionally complex issues of alleged fraud, dividend arbitrage, Danish tax law, multi-jurisdictional evidence and litigation funding.
We cover disputes being litigated but also those subject to other forms of ADR such as arbitration and mediation (see ADR Hub).
The standing of our team is underlined by the fact that Nigel Jones KC was awarded Commercial Litigation Silk of the Year at the Chambers UK Bar Awards, and listed in The Lawyer’s Hot 100 List. Nigel is also shortlisted for Silk of the Year at the Chambers Bar Awards 2026.
